마루 is a floor you sit on, not a place you log into. So once a month we use a real one — the same conversation, in person, for however long it runs.

There’s no English word for it. “Reading the room” is close, but not quite.
- It’s why 편하게 마셔 from your boss doesn’t mean what it says.
- It’s why 다음에 밥 한번 먹어요 isn’t actually a plan.
- It’s what someone means when they say you don’t have any.
If you’ve been here a while, you’ve probably walked away from something knowing you missed a signal, without knowing which one. I’ll explain what’s happening underneath those moments, as a Korean — and I want to hear yours.
